to all the dad's out there.
when we are young, we tend to think that anything worthwhile that we are is from ourselves. as we get older, we truly understand that anything liekeable or worthwhile in ourselves is seen merely because we are standing on the shoulders of giants.
and usually, for most of us, that Giant is called: "Dad."
thanks to my dad --for all you've done, for all you do, for who you are, for all the great memories you created with me in my childhood & throughout my life.
for kites
for fishing
for forts and treehouses and digging for sanddollars
and swimming.
for spiritual guidance and foundation
for leadership
for love
for teaching respect, and discipline.
for finding arrowheads with me in mama's miriam's farm,
and growing tall beanstalks in the garden.
for 'red fred in the bed'
and countless leg & airplane rides long after the novelty wore off.
for softball games and first cars and red fiats rides.
for wisteria-vine-swing-rides and kid-sized pine straw bird nests,
for working
for providing
for making me believe.
for indulging my whims and allowing me to pursue them,
even when you disagreed.
for thoughtfulness, and wisdom
for your kind and gentle heart,
for bawling tears with me at my wedding,
and embracing the concept of family,
for all the things i like in me for which i know i owe you the credit,
and all those others qualities i aspire toward...
for your deep and rooted soul
and... mostly...
for staying true, always
always
always
with all my heart i love you.
thanks for being my dad, and satine's Poppi.
