the Found Sounds Project is a continuation of my study and exploration of language.
i have been "collecting" these found sounds for some time now-- those bits of dialogue, words or phrases that, when i hear or read them, just seem to pop... like they are begging to be plucked from the entrapment of their original context. and once liberated from that context, take on a whole new beauty, or strangeness, or insight into the human condition. i love to just think of them as tangible things, these words, these phrases, just floating out in the ethers, hanging there, waiting for each of us to pluck from the sky, momentarily ponder its meaning, and then released into the air again like a balloon being caught and released over and over.
after years of carrying these found sounds around in my head, i decided to start recording them. unfortunately many had faded from memory by the time i did this. ah... i hate to think how many good ones were lost.
i am currently working on a Found Sounds series of painting and digital paintings.
