Vaccines are safe, right? My doctor says so. The medical establishment says so. Pharmaceutical companies say so.
But tell that to these people.
ok, not to be debby downer, but i have spent the last several days researching vaccinations, feeling just a little giant step behind in my parenting responsibilities. up until this point, i have been giving my daughter the scheduled vaccines. but she is now due for her upcoming MMR shot, and thanks to a little kick in the butt from grandma, i finally kicked into gear, wanting to learn more about any possible reasons NOT to give her the vaccines. i trust my doctor that vaccines are "safe" (now that thimerosol has been taken out of them), and of course vaccines have helped all of humanity by wiping out countless diseases.... but then, why all the rumors about the potential risk and correlation to neurological disorders such as autism?
i am disgusted and alarmed by what i have read. articles such as these.
and at the risk of information overload,
this
this
this
this
and this, among others.
in most of these articles, it seems that Thimerasol (Mercury) is the controversial ingredient, which, according to my understanding, has now been removed from most vaccines and is banned in California. However, the U.S. is now shipping the mercury-laced vaccines to developing countries.* Nice. Way to be a good neighbor.
{*from here. }
However, if you are getting vaccines -- INCLUDING A FLU VACCINE-- please ASK if it has Thimerosal!! "More than 90% of the flu vaccine supply contains Thimerosal and because the flu shot is now a mandatory vaccine on the schedule given every year, a child born today and following the CDC’s schedule could receive 50% or more of the mercury from vaccines that children received at the mid-1990s peak, as UPI chronicles in this recent story, Mercury Creeps Back in."
so, what conclusion is one to draw? is it safe as long as there is no thimerosal? i'm not sure. it seems that "mutliple vaccinations spaced close together" risk overstimulating the microglia (brain's immune cells) and cause them to "release a variety of toxic elements... that damage brain cells and their synaptic connections"

Now, surely if this were true our doctors would tell us right? yea, just like they told mothers in the '50's that thalidomide was safe.
i'm not an expert, and maybe one day there will be a definitive study to conclude either way, but for now, i am putting satine on an alternative vaccine schedule. i am not sure yet whether we are going to wait until she is 2, forgo them altogether (probably not) or just, at the very least, space the vaccines apart to minimize potential risk. i am sure that vaccines are safe for MOST people, but for those who are genetically vulnerable, why risk it? and you won't know if you are vulnerable until its too late.
if anybody knows a thing or two about this, i am open to dialogue and would love to hear your experience. feel free to comment here or email me direct. i'd love to get a thirteenth opinion.
thanks.
and ps. it is not my intention to stir up controversy or to disrespect anyone's personal choice, but merely to start dialogue + offer -- and receive!-- information to allow for more informed choices.
pps. and if you aren't completely disheartened by now, here's another very dry but informative link about the case for becoming more environmentally friendly. listen to it while checking your email or something.
cheers! sorry for being such a downer post today everybody :)
xxo
